Saharanpur – (From Saharanpur Book Fair 2015, 6th Dec. 2015) : Students of various schools of Saharanpur not only discovered the amazing charm, depth and beauty of the poetry of Sur, Meera, Kabir, Rahim, Raskhan and of course Tulsi Das while singing them but they enthralled their audience too. The students were invited to participate in a singing competition organised by The Saharanpur Dot Com during Saharanpur Book Fair in which they were asked to sing some of the poetry of their favourite poet of the Medieval period e.g. Surdas, Tulsidas, Kabir, Rahim, Meera, Raskhan, Bihari, Bhushan etc. It was a unique idea from The Saharanpur Dot Com and was liked by one and all. Special guests who graced the evening included Mrs. Singh w/o District Magistrate Shri Pawan Kumar, Mrs. Jayshri Shukla W/o Dr. Niraj Shukla, Nagar Aayukt, Yog Guru Padma Shree Bharat Bhushan Ji, Mrs. Rajni Singh and many many more.
Several Principals and teachers hailed the initiative taken by The Saharanpur Dot Com – calling it a noval idea which can and should be used in classrooms also during regular teaching in schools. They said that the students would be better able to appreciate the inherent charm and beauty of these poetic renditions which refuse to fade out from our memory. While it becomes difficult for most of contemporary poets to leave a lasting impression of their poetry in the minds of their audience, Surdas, Tulsidas, Meera, Kabir and Rahim who wrong and sang some 5 centuries earlier are still as fresh in our memory as ever. If the Hindi teachers ask the students to sing the poetry of these poets in the classrooms, it will no more be a burden for the students to memorize these great pieces of Indian literature.
