Mini Olympics 2016 in Saharanpur

DM urges everyone to come ahead and make the sports event a great success.

Saharanpur (27 Oct 2016) : Within weeks of a mega series of socio-cultural literary events within Saharanpur Book Fair 2016, a new series of events – this time sports, is awaiting Saharanpurians.  DM Saharanpur Shafaqat Kamaal and District Olympics Association President Sanjay Garg announced today that the Mini Olympics will commence on 12th November 2016 at Sports Stadium Saharanpur and would culminate on 18th Nov. 2016.

Briefing press about the sports events scheduled to take place during Mini Olympics, The Secretary of Dist. Olympics Association Dr. Ashok Kumar Gupta said that while many events would take place at the stadium, a large number of events would be conducted in various schools and colleges of Saharanpur.

Athletics       –   12, 13, 14 Nov.
Badminton    –   15, 16, 17 Nov.
Boxing  –           15, 16 Nov.
Hockey  –          15, 16 Nov.
Hand Ball –        15, 16 Nov.
Kho Kho  –         16, 17 Nov.
Volley Ball –       15, 16 Nov.
Wushu     –        12, 13 Nov.
Wrestling –        15, 16 Nov.
Weightlifting –    12, 13 Nov.

Dr. Gupta announced that the events are categorized in three categories –
Under 16  (Boys / Girls)
16 yrs. to less than 19 years (Boys / Girls)
19 yrs. and upto 22 years. (Boys / Girls)

Athletics events, for category UNDER 16
100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 1000 meter race,  Long Jump and Short Put would be organised.

Athletics events, for categories 16 – 19 and 19 – 22 yrs.
100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m 5000m, Long jump, Shot Put and Discus Throw.

sethiRegional Sports Officer Ajay Kumar Sethi said that different sports event In Charge have been nominated who would be responsible to conduct the sport event(s) successfully at their end.  Mr. Sethi said that Inauguration Ceremony would be held on 12th Nov. 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Stadium and Closing Ceremony will be on 18th Nov. at 11 a.m.

Sanjay Garg, Ex-Minister of State U.P. Govt. and the Chairperson of District Olympics Association told the press that there would be Batten Relay Race from 5th Nov. upto 11th Nov. 2016 which will cover all parts of Dist. Saharanpur in a circular route.

DM Shafaqat Kamaal urged all schools and colleges of Dist. Saharanpur to offer their best young talents a chance to prove their metal during Mini Olympics 2016 so that they would become medal hopes for India in the days and years to come.  He not only assured full cooperation to the Dist. Olympics Association and Sports Stadium but also asked Nagar Ayukt O.P. Verma, DIOS Radha Krishna Tiwari, BSA Budhpriya Singh and all principals and teachers of various schools and colleges to exhibit full enthusiasm and extend full cooperation to the District Olympics Association. Present in the meeting today included Regional Sports Officer Ajay Kumar Sethi, Nagar Ayukt O.P. Verma, DIOS, BSA, Dr. Ashok Kumar Gupta, Dr. Yogesh Kumar Gupta (Chairman Gyankalash Intl School, Dr. A.K. Dimri (Principal M.S. College), Dr. A.K. Mittal, Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Azad Ansari, Ashish Kumar Vaish, Judo coach and referee Deepak Gupta, Kashi Naresh Yadav, Sachin Gupta, Ishwar Pal Singh, Anurag Malik, Paramjeet Singh, Lal Dharmendra, Dashish Azam, Gulab Singh Rana, Sushant Singhal of thesaharanpur.com, Yashpal Singh, Sachin Garg, Sonveer Singh, Abdul Ahad, Ram Saran, Ashwani Goyal, Imran Qureshi, Manish Kumar, Mohd.
