Govt Medical College Saharanpur

A college, yes ! A hospital, not yet !

Govt. Medical College Saharanpur (officially named as Shaikh-ul-Hind Mullana Mahmood Hasan Medical College by the present State Government) is situated on Saharanpur-Ambala Highway in Pilakhni. Originally it was envisaged to be Manyavar Kanshi Ram Medical College by the earlier State Govt. led by Ms. Mayawati) but during general elections of 2014, when Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav and his father Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav came to Saharanpur for their election speech, they found it fit to change the name of the medical college to please their constituency hoping to garner some more votes but the strategy didn’t work. They also patted their back by inaugurating the medical college which was just a building under construction at that time.  There were no facilities befitting even of a district level hospital on the day of inauguration or even today, leave alone facilities one would expect from a state owned medical college.

The website of the medical college states that 100 students have taken admission for MBBS program in this college in the year 2015 and therefore first batch of students has arrived in this college.  It further states that it will be a 500-bed medical college.  It is understood that at present there is only OPD and no patients are admitted at the medical college.

There are several departments in the medical college – Anaesthesia,  Anatomy, Biochemstry, General Surgery, General Medicine, ENT, Obs. & Gyn., Paediatrics, Community Medicine, Dentistry, EMO, V.D. & Leprosy, Forensic Medicine, M.S., Microbiology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychiatry, Radio Diagnosis, T.B. & respiratory diseases.  The teaching staff has been appointed on permanent / temporary basis.
